Good Life
03:41
|
|||
i am taking my own advice
and i'm working to lock down a good life
i am sure it will be hard to find because
we're only here for a short time but i'm gonna try to find it
gonna look past the lies we're told
that a body is worth its weight in fool's gold
that nobody's breaking their back for me
what is debt to whom do i owe whatever i owe?
stay sharp to see wrong from right
but decisions aren't always made in black and white
and what goes around comes back around to us
although money and power change hands
the hands don't change

Things Fall Apart
04:45
|
|||
all good things fall to pieces
we trust what we believe in
time takes the weary by surprise
and holds on as it goes by
almighty youth and beauty
set into thankless duty
each day accelerates anew
faster and faster
a fraction of what came
a drop in the bucket
age infects us all
no vaccine or remedy
will slow the symptoms down
so graciously we must
face the inevitable
all things break down
all good things fall to pieces
before our eyes believe it
time takes the meager by the throat
and drags down in a death grip
hopeful and bright-eyed young men
become what came before them
time taints a sanguine point of view
darker and darker
hearts harder than stone
a fraction of what came
born a blank slate broken over time

Signal to Noise
03:27
|
|||
come and taste the sweet away from home
out on your own
good and bad will come
how can a good man find what he wants
amidst the wicked and the dumb
lo and behold
he must help himself
opulent world where options are endless
signal to noise
the ratio
got to sift through the mud
to get to the gold
oh signal to noise
newspapers and magazines and such
fine little-known
little landscapes of
people and places
here and abroad
are buried by the weight of such
quick irony
everywhere i see
pictures of faces
numbers of thumbs
signal to noise
the ratio
got to sift through the mud
to get to the gold
oh signal to noise
fiber-optic blood veins
subterranean pulse
a central nervous system
beneath the soil
dvd's and cat food anyplace anytime
behold the end result of evolution's grind
call it what you want to
open access and such
hard to tell if its strength in the margins
or a top-down, meta lie to sell us stuff
signal to noise
the ratio
got to sift through the mud
to get to the gold
oh signal to noise

To Taste the Light
03:58
|
|||
brother brother easy on the intake try
to curb the rate of dependence
before it gets the best of you
and breaks you down
mercy mercy every morning look and find
a heart afloat in pickle juice
a plight of desperation
as we helpless come
to taste the light
sharp as the sun
the gift that gives to everyone
mysterious
a strange device
so it goes that happiness is hard to find
and harder to hold onto
if you want to get it when you want it
find a source
holy holy holes in cheeks and bloodshot eyes
rotten teeth and liver
rotten disposition
lazy river suicide
to taste the light
sharp as the sun
the gift that gives to everyone
mysterious
a strange device
please try to give it up and get it right
and kick the habit over night
deliver our eyes
from a sad sight to a self made one
we pray every day and every night
to let him live and see the light
and lose his taste for
the cheap, quick, and the synthesized
to taste the light
sharp as the sun
the gift that gives to everyone
mysterious
a strange device
